A decent millionaire

This weekend, Lionel Pickering died of cancer. Now, he was, at one time, the chairman of my local football club - Derby County but in truth he was quite a 'down to earth' man.

I'll give you an example of what he was like. He made his money by creating free newspapers (Derby Trader) where the advertisments were where the money was made. He sold the group for £28m and apparently was asked how he would like the money. Stocks, gold - that sort of thing. He said - 'A cheque will do'. He took the cheque, went to the bank in Derby and asked the teller for a paying in slip.

So RIP Lionel Pickering, His heart was always in the right place and he wasn't afraid to spend money on a cause.
